Who are Beyond?

Beyond is a section that faced various changes with time. It’s roots go back to 2004 when it was the only section within the movement. At the time it the section was simply called Birkirkara section and it’s members worked a lot to give new life to ZHN. As the section’s efforts proved fruitful and the movement grew substantially in both members and sections, the Birkirakara section decided to disband.

Former members of the Birkirkara section together with some other new members decided to form another section which was then called Beyond. The name implies that we have to move beyond simply discussing the issues- we need to act if we want to see positive change. Average age in the group is 26 and most live a reality where they work on full-time basis.

In 2008 Beyond launched its awareness campaign titled Ix-Xoghol Kabrek jew Rikbek? It was an awareness campaign on the importance in finding balance between work and social life. Posters and leaflets were prepared and distributed to parishes around all Malta and Gozo. The leaflets were designed to encourage people to examine their current lifestyle and act if they neglected an aspect of their life. It is known to us thas some chaplains used Beyond’s material as a base for their sermon during mass.

At the moment Beyond is welcoming new prospective members. The section is also preparing reach out activities targeting youth in a number of parishes. This will come into effect in the coming months.

Who are Vision?

Vision is ZHN’s third section and was conceived in the summer of 2007 and later approved in October of that year. It first started off with three members but grew in number relatively quickly. Vision is a section which thrives on diversity since although the average age is 21-23 years, its range varies from 18 up to 26 years. Thus, every member can give his/her personal outlook on life judging by his/her past and current circumstances. Vision thus strives to connect people from different backgrounds and use that diversity in order to generate interesting See, Judge discussion sessions leading to successful Acts.

Vision’s first meetings revolved around getting to know the other members as well as establishing each individual’s wished-for accomplishments within the group. A picnic organised in November helped to bring members closer together whilst enjoying a fun activity in a more relaxed environment.

A Pasta Night took place in December for fundraising purposes. This took place in the ZHN Holiday House in St.Paul’s Bay and proved relatively successful. It helped members to pool ideas together, organize the whole event including shopping, poster making, money handling, cooking, cleaning and serving: all of which helped Visioners work together in order to achieve their goal.

As from spring of this year, Vision has been working on a project which focuses on help and safety at the workplace. The group’s diversity gave a boost to such a task as various issues and experiences were brought to bear. Summer jobs, part/full time jobs and apprenticeships have all been experienced by some member or other and thus, the See sessions proved quite intensive and fruitful as to what each member experiences in his/her working life.

The Judge sessions are always faith-oriented as the members, together with the spiritual guidance and reflections provided by the Chaplain, Fr.Joe Inguanez, discuss what the ideal situation would be like as suggested by the Church’s teachings.

Currently, Vision is working on the Act phase whose aim is to create an awareness concerning the duties and rights of employers and employees together with the training, manuals and other help provided by various unions in Malta.

3D

3D (Dream, Discuss, Develop) is a section within ZHN that began life 3 years ago. It presently includes around 20 members who are all students and whose age varies between 16 and 18.

3D has a special interest in St. Patrick's home for youth and we have been offering them our friendship for the past 3 years. We also organised various activities including Lenten talks, the Christmas Breakfast, football tournaments, 3 weekend seminars with different themes, video clips, masquerade ball during carnival, whitewashing at ZHN headquarters and various other activities. We're presently producing a video clip to help people realise about the perils brought about by over-consumism. 3D is also very active in the activities organized by the whole movement, and in fact, Keith & Justine, 2 members from our group are currently working in the ZHN National Council.

On the example given by Cardinal Joseph Cardijn, the founder of YCW, we adopt the method of 'See, Judge, Act' and do the evaluation of life each and everyone according to the reality he/she is living. On the group level, we choose an issue and work at it so that together we make a difference in today's world.

3D meets every Tuesday at 6.15 p.m. Whoever wishes to join us is most welcome and asked to send us an email to: ____________ or phone on 21244418
